Female body found
State authorities reportedly found the corpse of a woman who law enforcement believes belonged to a woman reported missing since early Sunday.
According to several media outlet reports, the body was found somewhere between the Colonia Oasis Campestre area and the Ejido Islas Agrarias area in eastern Mexicali.
Law enforcement agents told news media at the scene the corpse was dressed very similarly to Paola Andrea Bañuelos Flores, 23, who was reported missing on July 7.
La Voz newspaper reported the body was found close to an irrigation canal by a K9 Unit.
According to media outlet reports, the body had signs of foul play, specifically injuries from punches to the face.
The young woman and psychology student at the Autonomous University of Baja California took an application taxi service cab named Didi after exiting the La Consentida Bar early Sunday. The cab was driven by an individual identified as Sergio Daniel Gutiérrez Solórzano, who has not been found for questioning.
The police found the abandoned vehicle in a residential area and the woman’s smartphone was in the hands of a homeless man who found the device on the street earlier this week.
Also earlier this week, staff with the Baja California Commission of Victims approached Paola Andrea’s family members to begin a search effort.
Commission staff told family members Thursday there was a high possibility the corpse corresponded to Paola Andrea.
The authorities found the corpse by obtaining route data from the application used by the young woman.
Paola Andrea has been sought by family members and state and city law enforcement for several days. Over 40 law enforcement agents took part in the search.
State Coroner’s Office staff took custody of the body that was transported to the agency’s premises for identification and an autopsy.
