-

BENTON — The 5A South race stands to be a very tight one as the stretch run gets underway with only 4 1/2 games separating the top seven teams in the league.

On Thursday, El Dorado played another thriller against Benton with the Panthers outlasting the Wildcats 3-2 in 10 innings.

On March 1, the Wildcats scored three runs in the sixth to rally past Benton for a 4-3 win.

In the rematch, the Wildcats (8-8, 6-4) fell behind 2-0 before fighting back to tie the game at 2-all in the fourth.

The score would remain unchanged until the 10th when Gavin Kelley drew a bases-loaded walk to end it.

Holden Lowry, Jonah Davis and Sam York combined to hold Benton (11-5, 6-2) to just four hits.

Lowry, El Dorado's starter, allowed three hits and two runs with four walks and six strikeouts over six innings.

Davis, who has signed with South Arkansas College, made his first appearance on the mound this season after recovering from arm surgery.

The senior fired three hitless innings, walked two and struck out one.

York allowed the run in the 10th to take the loss.

York, who has signed with Hill College in Texas, had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and an RBI.

Davis had a double and an RBI for the Wildcats, who had nine hits.

Lowry went 2-for-4 with a walk, while Xorian Robinson had a single and walked twice.

Mitchell Polk and Peyton Howard each had singles for EHS, which stranded 10 baserunners.

The Wildcats were scheduled to hit the road to take on Pine Bluff in a league tilt on Friday.
