Ontario County is making sandbags available
Events postponed due to heavy rain
With wet and windy conditions on Wednesday, event cancellations and postponements rolled in.
The remnants of Hurricane Beryl have changed the lineup at Parcel 5 on Wednesday, and rescheduled at least one event for next week.
Wednesday’s planned Midday Bash has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 17. The weekly Downtown Rochester Farmers Market, held on Parcel 5, was canceled and will next take place on July 17.
Wednesday’s planned Concert by the Shore at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte has been moved to 7 p.m. Thursday.
City officials also moved Wednesday’s planned ROC the Block Community Employment Fair from Wednesday to July 17 in the front yard of Franklin High School, 950 Norton St.
In Greece, the “Bands at Barnard” concert series show for Wednesday was canceled due to predicted severe weather. VIP tickets will be refunded and general admission tickets can be used for any other concert in this summer’s season, according to event organizers.
CANANDAIGUA — In response to anticipated rainfall Wednesday, Ontario County is making sandbags available for city of Canandaigua residents to pick up.
Sandbags will be available for pickup at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility, 2914 County Road 48, Canandaigua. Motorists are asked to drive to the back of the access road and the sandbags will be adjacent to the fire training burn building.
Residents can pick up sandbags 24/7 as the gate will remain open through July 12.
The remnants of Hurricane Beryl are expected to reach Western New York by Wednesday morning, with Rochester expecting 2 to 4 inches of rain, based on the current AccuWeather forecast of the storm’s path and rainfall totals.
Residents are asked to first call 585396-4310, if during normal business hours, to ensure there is enough supply for everyone.
In thanking Ontario County for providing the sandbags, Canandaigua City Manager John Goodwin said this is a proactive measure and not intended to cause alarm.
