MIAMI COUNTY
■ ENGLEWOOD (Aug.
16) – A man faces charges after allegedly attempting to steal a portable A/C unit from Wal-Mart then leading a police officer on a vehicle pursuit before finally pulling over. Police were called to the Hoke Road business around 5:45 p.m. on the report of attempted theft. The man had left the store with the unit before making his way to a vehicle and driving from the property. He allegedly failed to stop for a police officer who reported following him along Interstate 70 pulling over. The driver was charged with theft and failure to comply. He was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
■ ENGLEWOOD (Aug. 15) – A theft of a bicycle was reported from outside the Speedway on South Main Street. The bicycle, owned by a station employee, was found nearby with a man riding it. The man reported to police that he did not steal the bicycle but had seen it parked outside the business for the past three days. He was told the bicycle belonged to an employee, police said. The man was charged with theft and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
■ TIPP CITY (Aug. 16) – Police reported a possible house rental scam. A woman said she believed she sent money to a rental agency to move into a house in the city only to find the listing was a scam. She gathered her belongings and left the property, police said.
■ CONCORD TWP., Miami County (Aug. 13) – Deputies responded to a reported disturbance at a North County Road 25A address. They reported finding a verbal dispute had occurred earlier in the day. Neither party wanted to leave for the evening so they were told to act civil towards each other, deputies said. No charges were filed.
■ CONCORD TWP., Miami County (Aug. 21) – Deputies were called to the Miami County Fairgrounds around 3 p.m. on a report of reckless operation of a vehicle. Both people in the vehicle were asked to leave the property and were told, at the Fair Board request, they would be charged with criminal trespassing if they returned, deputies said.
