Epicurean Esprit event returns; Woodland Winefest

The Friends of Meals on Wheels Yolo County will be holding its 33rd Annual Epicurean Esprit event from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at Grindstone Wines located at 12700 County Road 89 in Esparto.

“Join us for this year's Epicurean Esprit, an annual fundraiser to benefit Meals on Wheels Yolo County,” the event's Facebook page stated. “The winery is set amid trellised vines and offers magical views.”

The event will give attendees the opportunit­y to socialize and sample the “area's best wines and cuisine” provided by several premier restaurant­s, catering services, bakeries, wineries and breweries in a park-like setting featuring live music, according to the page.

“Supporting Meals on Wheels, the Epicurean Esprit raises money to assist with continued meal delivery to over 600 elderly people countywide — a 60% increase from over a year ago,” the page emphasized. “We hope you can join us in supporting an important cause while enjoying the festivitie­s and socializin­g with the community.”

The third annual Yolo Youth and Young Adult Job and Community Resource Fair will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the Woodland Community and Senior Center located at 2001 East St.

“This event is held in partnershi­p with the city of Woodland and YoloWorks,” the event's website noted.

Attendees will be able to connect with employers and local resources including YoloWorks!, Yolo County Children's Alliance, Yolo County Office of Education, Pride Industries, SAFE Credit Union and more.

• The Woodland Winefest returns Saturday, May 11 and will be held at Heritage Plaza at 701 Main St.

According to the event's Facebook page, the “intimate gathering featuring local boutique wineries and breweries” was created to benefit Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of Woodland, a non-profit organizati­on dedicated to empowering women through education and programs to help them achieve economic equality.

“We're so excited to be back on the Heritage Plaza in downtown Woodland,” the page stressed. “This year we're expanding the space giving us more room and adding more wineries and breweries. Additional­ly, we are adding a food truck this year so you can buy snacks and stroll through the event.”

Live music, a silent auction and a wine raffle will be available during the event.

Wineries and breweries that will be in attendance include Matchbook Winery, Great Bear Vineyards, Corkwood Cellars and Blue Note Brewery.

• The Woodland Farmers Market's Paint and Sip event supporting its kids farmers market for the 2024 season is returning in April.

The 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 event will be held at The HIVE, located at 1221 Harter Ave. Tickets for the event are $55 and include art supplies and instructio­n, one drink ticket for alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages and “guaranteed fun for a great cause,” according to the market's Facebook post.

“We can only sell 50 tickets and we sold out last year,” the post warned. “The HIVE is a great venue so come join us.”

• Students in grades 7th through 12th can apply to Woodland's youth essay contest honoring César Chávez.

The 500-word essay will answer the question, “How has César Chávez influenced your life and what impact will his legacy have on your future?”

Winners will receive cash prizes and present their winning essays during the César Chávez Community Celebratio­n on March 28, according to the city's website. Essays must be submitted by March 14.
