Andrew Briscoe
December 16, 1930 - January 28, 2024
Andrew (Andy) Briscoe passed away on Sunday January 28th at the age of 93. Andy was the first of two boys born to Frank & Margaret Briscoe, in Tulsa Oklahoma. He was a beloved big brother to his brother Bub (Edwin) and took the job seriously. Andy was a life long Aggie and proudly went to Oklahoma A & M University (now Oklahoma State) and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. He was also a member of ROTC and joined the Army after graduating and served in Korea for two years. After his stint in the army Andy returned to his family home in Stillwater OK and worked for his family's construction business. He married the love of his life Gretchen Koenig in
1956 and they proceeded to have five daughters, which was the catalyst for bringing him to Boulder CO. After working for his family's construction company, Andy became the public works director in Ponca City Ok for five years. Wanting a better life for his family Andy moved his family to Boulder CO after accepting a job with the City of Boulder as their Public Works Director. Andy worked for the city of Boulder in its heyday and met many of his lifelong friends while working there. He eventually left the City of Boulder and started his own consulting business. He eventually brought on some of his best friends from the city to work with him and created Briscoe Maphis Consulting and Briscoe Maphis Murray & Lamont Management company.
Andy was a life time member of the Boulder Rotary club and served as president of the Boulder Chapter in 1981-82. He also served on many boards, the one he was most proud of was serving on the Board of Trustees at Frasier Meadows
Manor, holding the office of president for 7 years.
In his retirement Andy loved to hike, go to auctions and collect Southwestern Art. Andy was never happier than when he came home from an auction with a score. He had an extensive collection of fishing lures that he mostly got for a steal at an auction. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports as they got older-he especially loved watching wrestling matches and was lucky that three of his grandkids participated in that sport.
Andy is survived by his four daughters, Susan Amerman (Dan), Lori Baker, Patty Hatton (Mark) and Kelly
Cantor (Lyn), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gretchen, his brother Edwin
(Bub) Briscoe and his daughter Kathleen. A memorial service will be held on Monday February 5th at 1:00 pm at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder CO 80301. Instead of flowers please consider making a contribution to Special Olympics Colorado, 12450 E Arapahoe Rd, Suite C, Centennial, CO 80112. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Andy's caregivers at Dignity Hospice and Juniper Village, they were all so kind and caring to him in his final days.
