TAYLOR COUNTY, TX – A 10-year old girl from San Antonio died last Thursday after being ejected following a fatal two-vehicle collision that took place on State Highway 153 approximately 30 miles south of Sweetwater.

Four adults and five children were also reported to have sustained injuries from the collision.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's preliminary investigation, a 2013 Honda Pilot sports utility vehicle towing a utility semi-trailer, operated by 38-year old Antonio Munoz from San Antonio, was traveling northbound on State Highway 153. At the same time a 2019 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, operated by 42-year old Brady Bill Lewis out of Lubbock, was traveling southbound on State Highway 153.

The investigation revealed that Munoz had drifted his vehicle off the north side of the roadway into the barrow ditch. Munoz then overcorrected, steering left back toward the roadway traveling into the southbound lane in a side skid.

As Munoz's vehicle entered the southbound lane, Lewis' vehicle was cresting a hill resulting in him colliding with Munoz's vehicle.

The 10-year old girl, a passenger in Munoz's vehicle, was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Earl Donnel.

Two male minors, ages 17 and 9, were also injured during the collision and were transported to Cook Children's Hospital. It was reported that both were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of collision.

Munoz was transported to Hendrick Medical CenterNorth with non-incapacitating injuries. A 37-year old woman, Nakud Torres, who was traveling with Munoz was also transported to Hendrick Medical CenterNorth with incapacitating injuries and was listed as in stable condition.

Lewis, the driver of the Tundra pickup truck, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center-North with non-incapacitating injuries and was listed as in stable condition.

Three male minors, ages 14, 8, and 5, were also transported to Hendrick Medical Center-North with all three suffering incapacitating injuries but were all listed as in stable condition.

39-year old Jessica Ann Davis, from Lubbock, was transported and treated for non-incapacitating injuries at Hendrick Medical Center-North.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
