WASECA - REV. RAYMOND HANS PETERSON, age 94 of Waseca, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Colony Court in Waseca.

Born on December 28, 1929, in Mobridge, South Dakota, he was the son of Henry and Julia (Russeth) Peterson. He graduated from Bryant High School in 1947 and went on to attend Augustana and Augsberg College. While in college, Ray studied pastoral ministry, nursing home administra­tion, and chaplaincy. He was united in marriage to Marvelle Ann Sorenson on June 7, 1950 at Palisades Church in Garretson, SD.

Ray spent over 50 years of his life working in ministry. He served churches in Revere, MN, Staten Island, NY, Colman SD, Minneapoli­s, MN, New Richland, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, and his most recent church, Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca, MN. He had also served as the Chief Chaplain of the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Ray also shared his ministry through song and also had a radio program of message and song in Yankton, South Dakota. He enjoyed golf, bowling (Holy Rollers), basketball and baseball.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Sandy) Peterson of Morristown, David (Kim) Peterson of Eden Valley, Peggy (Edward) Anderson of North Branch, Lisa (Jordan) Burdick of Waseca, and Tim Peterson of Tea, SD; twenty-one grandchild­ren; thirty-eight great-grandchild­ren; and 2 great-great-grandchild­ren. He is also survived by one sister, Joyce Case of Minneapoli­s; sister-in-law, Shirley (Marlin) Schmidt of Milbank, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Aril, Ted, Walter, Bill, Lenore, Ann, Alice, and Grace; and great-grandson, Trae Daniel Peterson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Cary Larson officiatin­g. A private family interment of Raymond’s and Marvelle’s cremated remains will take place at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca at a later date. dsofuneral.com
