Rodney Lewin
HARTFORD - Rodney Lee Lewin, 76, a lifelong resident of Hartford, SD, died peacefully on December 21, 2023 at Palisade Healthcare Center in Garretson, SD.
Rodney was born August 1, 1947, in Sioux Falls, SD to Batie and Helen (Parker) Lewin. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1965.
On February 17, 1968, he was united in marriage with Bonnie (Hollmann) Lewin, also of Hartford. They lived their entire lives in Hartford and were married for 52 years at the time of Bonnie’s passing in 2020. Rodney worked for the John Morrell Meat Packing plant for more than 30 years and then continued his hobby of farming full-time. Rodney loved the outdoors and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He and Bonnie enjoyed traveling, especially with their dear friends, Terry and Lexine Goehring. Rodney was a big sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandkids play basketball, football, baseball, and soccer. He loved and doted on all of their dogs, especially Josie, in his final years. Rodney enjoyed spending “happy hour” with his friends and was never one to turn down a cold one.
Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Haldon (Nancy) Lewin, Albuquerque, NM, his sister, Stephanie Lewin, Fort Meyer, Florida, his nephew, Mark (Shelly) Lewin, Morgan Hill, CA, his sister-in-law, Nancy (Larry) Weber, Belleville, IL, his son, Darin (Kandice) Lewin, Hartford, SD, his daughter, Angie (Gordy) Haldeman, Hartford, SD, his five grandchildren, Taylor, St. Kitts, Allison and Mark Lewin, Hartford, SD, Broc and Rylee Haldeman, Hartford, SD, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Duane, and his wife, Bonnie Lewin.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 28. 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church (701 N Main Ave., Hartford, SD 57033.) Family will be present for visitation from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Miller Funeral Home – Hartford Chapel.
