Mary Mildred Gershkowitz Neiman Korach

-

Mary Mildred Gershkowitz Neiman Korach (“Millie”) peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 17th after a long and fulfilling life. Her passing was just ten days after she turned 99.

Millie was born on August 7, 1925 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to parents Louis and Anna Gershkowitz, who immigrated from Russia. She followed older sisters Rose and Ruth and was the first of her family to be born in the United States.

At 4 years old, Millie and her family moved to Akron, Ohio, where she would go on to live for the next 95 years. She met and married her first husband, Eli, when she was “one month 18”, as she liked to say. They had two sons - Marcus and Alven.

Millie and Eli owned Regency Wines in Fairlawn for many years and became well-known in the community . Their extensive knowledge even traveled to the White House when Millie was asked to procure a favorite wine for President Nixon during a visit to the area.

Millie officially became Bubbie during this time when her two oldest grandchildren were born. Being a Bubbie was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Millie married her second husband, Malcolm, after a brief courtship. They would go on to travel the world together, and dote on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2024, Bubbie became a great-great grandmother.

She’s surely sporting her famous knee-high go-go boots and teased hair as she toasts her loves from above.

Millie is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Anna, her sisters, Rose and Ruth, her great loves, Eli and Malcolm and her grandson, Zachary. She is survived by her sons, Marcus (Maryann) and Alven, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held for Millie at Anshe Sfard Cemetery on Wednesday, August 21st at 1pm. Reception to follow at the Revere Road Synagogue in Fairlawn.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Millie’s honor to one of her favorite organizations.
