Crestwood student killed in crash Friday
A 13-year-old student at Crestwood Middle School died Friday in a crash in Medina County.
Crestwood Local Schools posted Saturday on its Facebook page that Veronica Turpel died unexpectedly in a crash on Friday.
A staff member at Green Funeral Care, which is making arrangements for the girl, confirmed that Turpel died in the crash in Medina County.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said Monday the crash remains under investigation.
“Veronica was a cherished member of our school community where her presence touched the lives of many students and staff alike, and this loss will be deeply felt by the Crestwood community,” the post stated. Counselors were on hand Monday at Crestwood High School to help students and school staff cope with Turpel’s death.
“During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Veronica’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through this profound grief and loss, the post stated.”
Turpel’s obituary described her as a “very spirited soul” and a “proud Crestwood Red Devil” who had just completed seventh grade.
“She loved singing, arts, dancing to Native American music, being a social butterfly, laughing and running and being with her friends. She had a special fondness for animals and enjoyed being in the outdoors and camping,” her obituary stated. “Veronica loved aggravating her family to get their attention, but she truly wore her heart on her sleeve and never missed an opportunity to say ‘I love you.’”
Services are planned for Thursday at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail in Mantua, where visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. followed by words of remembrance at 7 p.m.
