LAKEMORE - Alice Petry was called to her heavenly home on March 2, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Deward G and Eddith Bailey, brothers Bryan and Henry Bailey, brother and sister-in-law Kaydo and Margie Petry and sister-in-law and dear friend, Maxine Belton.

Left to celebrate her life and keep her memory alive are her husband of almost 70 years, Larry Petry Sr., children Larry (Debbie) Petry Jr., Connie (Terry) Moyers and Linda (Mark) Kremer. Grandchildren; Angela (John) Callaway, Kelly (Seth) Gottlieb, Tony (Erica) Moyers, Clay (Alexis) Kremer, David and Jacob Petry. Lovingly known as GG to her great-grandchildren; Isabella, Jackson, Travis, Austin, Jameson, Trenton, Tripp, Brayden and baby boy Kremer. Brother and sisters-in-law Ron and Beverly Petry and Miriam Bernhard. Her “bonus kids” who loved her like a mom, Jukka and Heikki Heinijoki, Ursula Hasler and Debbie Robinson as well as many extended family and friends.

After 11 years of night and summer school, Alice earned her teaching degree at the University of Akron. Mrs. Petry taught 4th and 7th grades at Springfield Local Schools for 30 years.

She was a lifetime member of the Eastwood Church of the Brethren and taught Sunday School in “Alice’s Kitchen Class” for many years.

Upon retirement, Alice & Larry began a new chapter in their lives in service to others. They joined Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) and ran soup kitchens in Washington DC, spent 2 years in Hiroshima Japan as hosts of the World Friendship Center and were Disaster Coordinators at more than 25 projects in the US and beyond rebuilding homes.

Alice loved Jesus, her family, entertaining, serving others, playing games, reading, adventure and travel. Her commitment to education continued beyond death as she donated her body to Northeast Ohio Medical University.

We are so grateful for the compassionate care from the staff at Traditions Hospice – Jen, Kim, Michelle and Sam.

There will be a Celebration of Life on April 1, 2024 (which would have been her 88th birthday) at 11:00 am at the Eastwood Church of the Brethren 581 Darrow Rd. Akron, OH 44305. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
