-

Janice Lee Schumacher (nee Thome) departed from this earthly life on January 15th, 2024 at the age of 69 years.

Born in Akron, OH, she was the daughter of Marvin Ray Thome and Jean Maree Zimmerman Thome. She married Robert K. Schumacher in 1992, and they lived since then in Copley, OH. They have one daughter, Allison Marie Schumacher. Janice was a graduate of Copley High School, Class of 1973, and the Akron School of Practical Nursing, serving as Class of 1975 President. She devoted her career to the field of nursing, including many years at Fairlawn Family Practice where she was respected and loved by the doctors, patients and staff alike.

When she retired from full-time nursing, Janice worked part-time for the Copley Board of Education as a transportation aide for preschoolers, who affectionately knew her as “Mrs. Schu.”

She leaves behind to mourn her loss her devoted husband Robert, of Copley, and loving daughter Allison, of Parma, OH. As well she leaves her brother Richard M. Thome (David Sperner) of Palm Harbor, FL; brother-in-law Richard (Heather) Schumacher of Akron, OH; and, cousins William (Robin) Crocker, Joel (“Skip” Munroe) Crocker-Munroe, and Barbara Crocker (Martha Bryan), all of Massachusetts, and Jay Tibbetts and Suzanne Tibbetts Thomas, of Anderson, IN, and Celina, OH, respectively. Janice loved gardening, yoga, reading, and volunteering at The American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop. She adored her “grand-dog” Tinky, who will certainly miss snacking on Reese’s Puffs with her Gammy. Janice’s intelligence and generous, helping spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. Final arrangements are provided by Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333. Visitation Hours with the family will be held there on Friday January 19th from 4 to 6 pm, concluding with a brief Prayer of Loving Farewell officiated by Rev. Richard Schumacher. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you visit give.ccf.org/HonoringJanice to donate in support of the Cleveland Clinic Hospice Program.
