BYRDSTOWN, TN Virgil Chasten Cope, Jr., age 83 of Byrdstown, TN, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to Virgil Chasten Cope and Grace (Myers) Cope.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra K. Cope; parents Virgil and Grace Cope; and brother: Gordon Cope. Virgil is survived by daughter, Melissa (James) Walsh; 2 sons, Craig (Janna) Cope, Ronald Kevin Cope (Glynis Carpenter); stepchildr­en, Darin (Trina) Johnston; Dane (Karen) Johnston; Donny Johnston; 14 grandchild­ren; 20 great-grandchild­ren; sister, Georgia Lee Cope; best friend (e.g. brother), Frank Gerard; bestie neighbor, Carolyn Cope; and many other Cope & Meyers family members and friends.

Virgil, a.k.a., “Junior”, worked hard to give his family a better life. Most of the time he was working two or three jobs. He was never afraid of hard work. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 36 years of service. He found love a second time, when he met Sandra “Sandy.” After retirement, he and Sandy retired to his beloved family hometown of Byrdstown, TN. As a youth, he spent many happy summers there. He enjoyed watching Ohio State football games, golfing, bowling, fishing, card playing, dancing and visiting family. He studied genealogy, loved tracing his heritage, and sharing many family stories. He passed peacefully, knowing his eternity was secure in Jesus.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 3pm-5pm at Hecker Patron Funeral Home, 13151 Cleveland Ave., NW Uniontown, Ohio 44685, where the funeral will be conducted, Monday, January 22, 2024, 11am, officiated by Minister and family member, Brother Rick Cross. Interment will take place at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
