Silver Lake man charged in Thursday police chase through suburbs

A 22-year-old Silver Lake man who led three police departments on a chase through Summit County in a stolen vehicle is facing multiple charges, including resisting arrest and failure to comply with a police officer.

The chase began Thursday afternoon in Cuyahoga Falls at Front Street and Hudson Drive, Falls Capt. Chris Norfolk said. Driving north, he took police through Silver Lake and into Stow.

At least one accident was reported as a result of the chase. No injuries were reported.

Stow police entered the chase at around 2:30 p.m. They deployed stop sticks to halt the vehicle as Cuyahoga Falls cruisers continued the pursuit, according to an incident report provided by the Stow Police Department.

Officers reported the vehicle swerved to avoid the stop sticks at a high rate of speed and continued down Graham Road before turning north on Darrow Road.

The suspect jumped out of the vehicle as it moved through the intersection, striking nearby vehicles, according to the Stow Police Department. The 22year-old then continued on foot, beginning the second phase of the chase.

Police quickly located the man running near the Stow police station and converged on his location.

Surrounded by nearly a dozen Stow officers, including three detectives, he attempted to snake between them but was taken to the ground, according to the report.

One officer managed to grab his upper body and trip the suspect, who fell to the ground. Stow officers then placed him into the custody of the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department.

Stow Police Chief Jeff Film said the stolen vehicle was from Kent. The 22year-old is also charged with receiving stolen property.

No injuries were reported from the crashes. No additional charges were filed.
