Going to Browns playoff game could cost $27K

- George M. Thomas

The Browns are on the road to a playoff game — and there isn’t a pandemic going on, unlike the last time when they played and thumped the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opening round then took the Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire in 2021?

And do you want to go? Good luck with that.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Depending on travel dates and your bank account, getting a flight to Houston is certainly feasible — and at this moment in time, the cost of airfare won’t force anyone to mortgage their home.

If you’re willing to be flexible with arrival dates and want to take in the culture of Texas, tickets with layovers out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport begin at $360 (leaving Thursday, returning Monday) with one stop across several carriers, according to a search on Expedia.com, a travel website.

For those unwilling to be at the whim of multiple flights where a 100-meter dash may be necessary to make a connecting flight, nonstop flights are going for $499 as of 10 a.m. Monday morning.

And for those preferring to fly out of Akron-Canton Airport? That will cost more. Tickets range from $668 to $1,522 on those same dates and there are no dithe

Unless you have relatives willing to tolerate you for four days, a hotel will be necessary, and there are plenty of options within a reasonable distance of NRG Stadium with reasonable rates from the thrifty (Quality Inn $86) to pricier options such as the Wyndham a half-mile away at $260 a night. For those who prefer more privacy, there are also apartment options available near stadium for a little bit more.

Travel accommodations aren’t the tricky part of this equation, are they? That comes in the form of being able to get in the building to see the Browns take on the Texans at 4:30 p.m.

On SeatGeek.com, tickets currently range in price from the reasonable (for these times) — $193 — to the ridiculous $27,749 (It’s Texas, everything is bigger in Texas).
