Madeline Strauss

AKRON - Madeline passsed peacefully at her home on December 22, 2023. She was born to Clarence and Evelyn Workman in Akron, Ohio in 1924. Madeline graduated from St. Vincent High School with high honors. She was a secretary for a prominent investment firm, Dies Electric, and PNC Bank.

Madeline and James were married for 44 years until his passing in 1992. In retirement she became a volunteer for Stan Hywet working in the Arts and Crafts area. She spent endless hours quilting purses, totes, and wall hangings. She would have over 7,500 hours of service. She completed quilts for all her family members.

Madeline and Tom were married for 18 years before his passing in 2016. They spent a short time living in Florida while traveling to Europe and Western United States.

Madeline was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Martha, St. Sebastian, Our Lady Of Victory, and again to St. Sebastian where she served as a Lector, Eucharisti­c Minister, and a choir member. She belonged to many clubs outside of the Church.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James Showalter, Sr., Thomas Strauss; children, Michael Showalter, Mary Chris Showalter Thomas, and grandchild, Christophe­r Showalter; six siblings and their spouses.

Madeline is survived by children James (Jaye) Showalter Jr., Patti Showalter Higgins, Edward (Pam Myers) Showalter, son-in-law Andy (Lori) Thomas. Grandchild­ren Brad (Melissa) Higgins, Megan (Bill) Higgins, Kelcey Showalter, Mackenzie (Nate) Manos, Taylor (Klay) Beitel, Candace (Ken) Weinhardt, Brynne (Todd) Schafer. Great grand children, Dominic, Lily, Cole, Liam, James, Kendall, Kaeden, Blakely, Lochlyn, Kennedy and Kassidy.

Calling hours will be held at Hummel Funeral Homes located at 500 East Exchange St. Akron, OH 44304 Wednesday January 3rd, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day Thursday January 4th, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Sebastians Parish located at 476 Mull Ave. Akron, OH 44320.
