1. Pleat the length of the paper approximately 10 times and cut the paper from the roll. Fold the paper in half so that the pleats match each other at the top.

2. Now, cut an arch through the folded paper from the right side of the fold to the top left corner. Use this as a guide for the next five fans, so you will have six in total.

3. Unfold, and refresh the pleats, and position the curved side towards you. Concertina the folds together, and fold in half so the longest sides are touching, then cut along the fold. Glue the two long ends together.

4. Make six smaller fans in the same way.

5. Use the glue gun to glue the end of two metal sticks on each side of the middle of a fan. Repeat on all fans. Cut thin strips from the excess paper, then coat the strips with glue and twist them around the gathered end of your fan and along the metal sticks. Repeat for each fan.

6. Use the light socket to check how the ring for installation of the lamp should be shaped – using a socket which is simply screwed on for installation would be the easiest as the ring can be wedged in. Bend a metal stick into shape to create a ring that fits in the socket, cover it in a strip of paper as with the metal sticks before.

7. Lay the fans out in a circular pattern that you’re happy with. Twist the fans’ sticks onto the ring, cut away any excess. Place the ring with the fans on the socket and screw on the other end of the socket. Your lampshade is ready for hanging.

NB Only use an LED bulb in this lamp, as other bulbs may generate too much heat
