TWO STYLISH AND INNOVATIVE ADULT-ONLY COTTAGES…
Chris and David Lidgett are the owners of Suffolk Country Retreats; two lovingly renovated dog-friendly cottages that opened at Easter this year. The cottages have access to each other via an external gate, making them a perfect retreat for friends or family who like to holiday together whilst still enjoying their own space.
“Udder Cottage and Milk Churn Cottage are part of a 200-year-old dairy farm,” explains Chris. “We live on site, and the cottages are in part of the old courtyard. During Covid we decided to turn them into luxury, adult-only, dog-friendly holiday lets. We’ve had an amazing first season and met some fantastic people with lovely dogs.
“Both cottages are one-bedroom with super-kingsize beds and luxury white linen. They can be booked together to accommodate a party of four, with two dogs in each cottage. There are lovely walks directly from the doorstep and all the local pubs and restaurants are dogfriendly. As well as a welcome pack for guests we provide one for dogs, which contains lovely treats, toys, shampoo, conditioner and paw balm.
“I’ve always found it annoying when booking a holiday to find that the price increases dramatically at certain times of the year, so we charge a standard rate of £99 per night, no matter if it’s a bank holiday or Christmas!”
The cottages are light, modern, and comfortable and beautifully styled with cow-themed interior décor. Dogs are very welcome, with no extra charge. Each cottage has a secure garden area that is divided by a fence but if both cottages are booked together part of the fence can be removed to create a communal outdoor space if that is preferred. There is even an indoor dog shower area that is ideal for washing dogs off if needed.
Owners are requested to bring their dog’s bed or basket if dogs go on the beds or furniture, and to use protective throws. It may be possible to book a dog sitter should guests wish to enjoy time without their canine friends!
