Spring is ‘best time to buy a home’

-

IF you want to put down roots in the Westcountry and enjoy the great lifestyle the region has to offer, then spring is the perfect time to buy.

According to the latest Zoopla House Price Index, the number of homes for sale are a fifth (21%) higher than a year ago, with buyer demand also up 11% and sales agreed are 15% higher than this time last year, which is evidence of greater buyer confidence and more realism on pricing by sellers.

Andrew Moores, associate at Luscombe Maye, said: “The first half of 2024 will see plenty of good property come to the market, the prices should be mostly sensible (relatively), it will see greater demand as buyers return. It will be sandwiched by the winter and a likely election later in the year giving us a condensed couple of months to really get people moved for the summer.”

Roger Punch, consultant with Marchand Petit, said: “When we reach the spring, the days get longer and warmer, and this year we start to feel dryer, the buds break out in our gardens, and we all start to feel positive. This is a logical time to launch a property on to the market to reach the ‘new’ buyers who want to occupy their next property at a time when they can maximise its enjoyment.

“Places of high scenic value such as the South Hams look even more inviting, and it is easy to imagine the expectancy of being able to live in a place like this. Better access to the outdoors, whether it is your favourite beach, the rolling green countryside of South Devon, or the wide expanses of Dartmoor.”
