Teen arrested after car hits school run vehicles
A TEENAGER has been arrested after a car smashed into a series of parked vehicles and struck a fence in Plymouth, at the same time as parents were picking up their children from school.
Police confirmed an 18-year-old male was arrested following the collisions in Ferndale Road, Camels Head, which allegedly saw the teenager and other occupants of the vehicle leave the scene before police had arrived.
One resident told WMN sister website PlymouthLive that the damage to a large pickup truck which had been struck by the vehicle – and the distance it was moved – suggested that it was “hit at some speed”.
The resident added that the suspect’s car then continued a further 70ft along the road into a garden fence, going into and even over it, narrowly missing a parked motor-trike.
The resident said: “This was just before 4pm when there were still a lot of schoolkids being picked up by parents, or walking home alone from school. It could have been so much worse. Police later removed the car from the fence and took it away, but the damage left behind was clearly pretty bad. It’s meant to be a 20mph road.”
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said officers were called to Ferndale Road at 3.50pm on Tuesday, following a report that a car had been in collision with multiple parked cars. The spokesperson said: “It was further reported that the occupants of the car had left the scene. Officers attended and searched the area.
“An 18-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle dangerously, using a vehicle without suitable insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and drug-driving. He has been released on police bail until 28 May.”
