Warning to passengers as station shuts for work
PASSENGERS have been warned of disruptions today as a major train station is set to close.
Cardiff Queen Street, located in the city centre, will be closed as engineering work begins for the South Wales Metro.
As a result, a number of rail services will be affected by disruption, which is set to continue intermittently until
November. The South Wales Metro promises to be a “modern, efficient and sustainable” way of travelling.
Since 2020, Transport for Wales (TfW) has undertaken major engineering and infrastructure work to upgrade the rail network in a bid to introduce new trains onto the South Wales network.
In a statement, a spokesperson for
Transport for Wales said: “Transformation works will continue across the valley lines in preparation for the South Wales Metro and its connecting lines. TfW is advising all customers to check before they travel as rail replacement buses will be in operation.”
No services will run through Cardiff Queen Street station today, with services either being served by a replacement bus service or diverted to Cardiff Central.
According to Transport for Wales, it would be the “first of several engineering works affecting services” through Cardiff Queen Street.
There will be further closures next Saturday and Sunday. And the station is scheduled to close again between
Sunday, October 27, and Friday, November 1.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling between Wales and England could face disruption as repair work takes place on the Severn Tunnel this weekend. Engineers are carrying out maintenance work to the overhead conductor rail, which powers electric trains.
