VALE DEFENDER IACOVITTI SEALS SCOTLAND DEAL AT ST MIRREN
PORT Vale have sold defender Alex Iacovitti to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren. The 26-year-old joined the Valiants last summer from Ross County and went on to make 38 appearances for the club.
However, he is now heading back to Scotland to link up with Stephen Robinson’s side for an undisclosed fee. Port Vale manager Darren Moore told the club: “I would like to wish Alex the very best of luck as he makes the move back to Scotland to join St Mirren and thank him for his time and efforts throughout his time at Vale Park.”
St Mirren manager Robinson hailed the experience and balance that Iacovitti will bring to his squad.
The left-sided central defender has signed a twoyear contract, having also played for Nottingham Forest, Mansfield, Forest Green and Oldham.
Robinson told the club’s official website: “Alex comes with SPFL experience which is vital to us at the moment. We’re still a young squad with some new players that haven’t played at this level. Alex has that experience. “He gives us natural balance on the left-hand side of the pitch and it means we have two left-footed defenders and two right-footed defenders. It gives us great balance in the squad.
“He’s experienced and will help drive standards. We need more voices in the changing room and I think Alex will fit in very well.” Iacovitti added: “I’m really excited. I know the league well and I just can’t wait to get started now.
“It’s always been tough whenever I’ve played against the manager’s teams so I’m really happy to get the deal over the line.
“The last few years have been brilliant for the club and with Europe as well, it was a massive attraction.” Moore is looking to revamp his Vale squad following their relegation from League One at the end of last season. He has already drafted in nine new players into the club since the end of the last campaign.
Those signings include defender Connor Hall, who has returned from Colchester.
