STAFFORDSHIRE Cricket’s development director Jason Britton has taken a position on a leading ECB committee. Britton, who joined Staffordshire Cricket in May 2008, has been selected to take up one of two county board voluntary positions on the ECB’S Recreational Game Committee which is charged with providing strategic advice to the ECB Board in relation to the recreational element of the game.

The 52 year-old is a life member and vice-chair at Meir Heath Cricket Club having spent his whole playing career with the Willow Lane club, a director of the county cricket board and trustee of both Staffordshire Young Cricketers’ Trust and the Stone and District Sports Association and has sat on a number of working groups during his professional time in the game.

“I was delighted - if a little surprised - when I got the call to say I’d been unanimously recommended by the interview panel to join the RGC,” said Britton.

“It’s a great and exciting time to get involved at this level in the game that I love and I intend to provide a clear and challenging voice for the game.

“It’s a strong and incredibly passionate committee entrenched in all aspects of recreational cricket and I’m looking forward to playing my part in its success in creating a strong future for our part of the sport.”

Chair of the Recreational Game Committee and ECB board non-executive director, Jennifer Owen-adams, added: “Jason gave a strong performance at interview and impressed us with his grounded, pragmatic, yet forward thinking perspective. “Those qualities as well as his extensive expertise and deep experience as a senior leader in Recreational Cricket will add great value to our committee. He’s a very welcome addition.”

Dave Smith, chair of Staffordshire Cricket, said: “This is not only fantastic news for Jason personally but also for Staffordshire as a cricket county. It’s a great opportunity to have a positive influence on recreational cricket in England and Wales.”
