Garrity is setting example in quest for safety success

- Dan Newbould PORT VALE

DARREN Moore says everyone can take a leaf out of Ben Garrity’s book in the fight for survival. Garrity spoke passionately following another defeat to Wycombe midweek and Moore has echoed his sentiments, praising him both on and off the field.

“Everybody Ben has spoken about connected to this football club has to embody exactly what he says in terms of the fight, the commitment, the desire, the determination,” manager Moore said.

“Every single one of us has to do it whether you are on the football pitch or supporting the team off the pitch, everybody has to embody what Ben has said.

“As an individual in terms of doing his job for the team and for the football club this season, he has ticked the box.

“His drive, his commitment, his never say die attitude, his willingness to do the unexpected in possession and out of possession of the ball and what he has added is his goals.

“I think everybody associates with him because of his drive and his tenacity and his determination. He is on the pitch as he is off the pitch.

“He has got that real focus, he is a man’s man and he is a real joy to work with and we will need that certainly over these next days from now until the end of the season.

“We need that drive and that commitment.

“He does what it says on the tin in terms of those qualities that he has and he has driven that all season.”

Another player praised by Moore was Ethan Chislett who has impressed this season and scored another brilliant goal last weekend to put Vale one, up before Exeter came back, to make it nine goals and seven assists this league campaign and 11 in all competitions.

Moore said on him: “I think you have seen him get back into form in terms of the goals that he has scored.

“We have seen him numerous times in goalscoring positions and we feel that if we can get him in there he is somebody with the capabilities of getting goals.

“He, alongside Ben, has scored double figures this season which has been magnificent from the two midfield players so we have got that which has been great and they have kept us almost in the fight with those goals.

“If we can get him on the ball in those certain areas of the pitch then he brings a level of excitement for us because something is going to happen. He is either going to create, score a goal or hopefully assist a goal.

“He can feel pleased with his work thus far but we need both players we have mentioned to go that extra yard again for us.”

Chislett is expected to be fit for today’s game but it is bad news for James Plant.

Elaborating on his side’s team news, starting with Chislett after he went off in midweek, Moore said: “We think he is going to be ok.

“We are still waiting on reports for Tom Sang, he was carrying a little bit of a knock. We will check on him. Baylee Dipepa as well. We are still waiting on him.

“We don’t envisage Planty making it. Ben Lomax won’t feature this season. That is a sad one for him, he is making a good recovery but the earliest we will see him is next season.”
