‘He loves it here’ says Harrison as Wasdell Dundalk enjoys repeat victory at Perth

- Gordon Brown

Wasdell Dundalk and jockey Danny Mcmenamin gained a repeat win in the £15,000 feature race at Perth yesterday.

Trained in Cumbria by Lisa Harrison, the 9/1 chance got home by half a length in the Peugeot And Citroen Commercial At Auto services perth Handicap Chase over three miles.

“He’s such a legend and he loves it here,” Harrison said. “He always tries so hard and there’s a fair chance he’ll be back here before the end of the season.”

Dripsey Moon, ridden by Brian Hughes and the only runner of the day for Donald Mccain, rallied well to land the £12,000 Auto Services Perth Support Dundee Bairns Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

“You can’t complain when you have a winner at your local track,” said Tayside owner Jimmy Fyffe. “He’s a lovely horse and both his wins have come over this course and distance so I think there is something for him at the next meeting later this month.”

Meanwhile, at Leicester today, Formal is expected to double her tally in the British EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute's youngster is bred in the purple as a daughter of Dubawi out of Cheveley Park's Group Onewinning racemare Veracious, and she made a smart start to her career at Newbury in July.

While runners from this yard tend to improve for experience, Formal was more than ready enough for her racecourse debut, readily accounting for an odds-on favourite who had already shown a decent level of ability in the form of Glistening.

The third and fourth home, Qilin Queen and Veraison, both came out and won on their next starts, so the form looks watertight and given Formal can only progress from that initial experience, she is difficult to oppose in the Midlands under a penalty.

Archivist is also of interest for the same connections in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes. Another Dubawi product owned and bred by Cheveley Park, the chestnut colt shaped with distinct promise on his debut at Lingfield, beaten just under six lengths into fourth place.

It would be no surprise to see a much improved performance at the second time of asking.

One Of Our Own can continue her productive summer at Catterick in the Racing TV Club Day Handicap.

The four-year-old has been kept busy in low grade sprint handicaps by trainer Rebecca Menzies, running eight times since the start of June, but she has managed three wins over this course and distance and a 4lb hike for her latest triumph does not look insurmountable.
