MUSIC Weather Hits at the BBC
Summer finally arrived, for a few days at least, in the UK last month. And to celebrate, BBC’S forecasters Carol Kirkwood and Tomasz Schafernaker present an unpredictable but joyous collection of weather-related chart hits. It’s a selection that covers all conditions, from Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone to Travis’s Why Does It Always Rain on Me? That’s followed by another chance to see TOTP2: Summertime Special at 11:30pm, in which Mark Radcliffe introduces performances by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-john, Shaggy, Bobby Goldsboro, Scotland’s own Bay City Rollers and more.

NOSTALGIA Classic Movies: The Story of Whisky Galore!
Film critic Ian Nathan examines
Alexander Mackendrick’s 1949 Ealing comedy, which starred Basil Radford, Joan Greenwood, James Robertson Justice and Gordon Jackson. Based on a true event – the SS Politician running aground off the coast of the Hebridean island of Eriskay in 1941 – it is a heartwarming tale of a closeknit Scottish island community who relieve a sinking cargo ship carrying cases of whisky during the war. It was filmed on the island of Barra, where the weather caused the production schedule to overrun.
