Odada says Goodwin’s vision for United convinced him to make Tannadice move

- Ross Mcleish

Richard Odada insists Jim Goodwin’s vision for Dundee United persuaded him to make the move to Scottish football.

The 23-year-old Kenya defender signed last month from MLS Eastern Conference side Philadelphia Union on a two-year contract, with a club-held option of an additional year.

He made his debut as a late substitute in the 2-2 draw with rivals Dundee at Tannadice last week, an experience he described as “amazing”.

Ahead of today’s trip to Ross County, Odada spoke about the influence of good win, who brought the Tayside club up to the Scottish Premiership last season.

He said: “I’m excited because he’s a straightforward coach. He knows what he wants and I think every football player has a dream to work with such a manager who is always open minded. He’s open to all his players.

“So I’m happy where I am right now. So I just need to keep on working hard and everything will fall into place. I am enjoying everything. I have good team-mates, good locker room and also a good coach. We’re working good and it’s exciting to me. It’s a big club. It has big history and last season they fought so much to get where they are now.”

County’s Noah Chilvers is set to be given his home debut by Don Cowie against United and is intent on lighting up Scottish football as he relishes the chance to test himself in a new environment following his move to ding wall. the 23- year old joined the St aggie son a three-year deal last week from Col chester, where he scored 26 goals in almost 200 appearances since his de but in 2019.

Chilvers insisted he will not be overawed by playing in Scotland’s top flight and aims to become the creative spark in County’s attack.

“I’m an attack-minded player, I like to be creative, create chances and score goals,” he said. “I want to get the fans on their feet and make things happen. I’m really looking forward to showing the fans what I can bring to the club. I just love playing football so it’s obviously going to be a cool experience playing at all these big grounds in Scotland but I want to come here and be successful.”
