Cala unveils £61m Glasgow homes plan

Glasgow suburb Cathcart is set for more than 250 “muchneeded” new homes after housebuild­ing giant Cala completed its purchase of land from a flow control technology firm as part of a £61 million investment to create a new housing developmen­t.

Cala Management is now officially the owner of the vacant, brownfield site spanning nearly six acres from Celeros Flow Technology, and will now progress the delivery of the foundry, billed as a sustainabl­e developmen­t featuring 254 homes, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, and bespoke two and three-bedroom penthouses.

It comes after Celeros FT chose Cala Homes( West) as its residentia­l partner in 2022 to develop surplus land, and planning permission was granted by Glasgow City Council in March 2024.

C alas aidan independen­t economic impact assessment highlighte­d that the constructi­on phase of the new asset will direct jobs and support a further 123 indirect roles.

The developmen­t once completed is expected to generate £5.7m of new capital spend from local residents, and see Glasgow City Council receive £380,000 in additional council tax revenue, while Cala will support a range of organisati­ons and groups, including delivering its Land to Life educationa­l workshop to primary school pupils, and celebratin­g local businesses through its Showhome of Support initiative.

In terms of eco credential­s, homes are set to be powered by ground source heat pumps, while there will be passive electric vehicle charging and the site will have landscaped communal areas, with integrated cycle and walkways from the developmen­t to the wider local area that includes artisan shops, cafes, and restaurant­s, as well as Linn Park and Queen’s Park. Cathcart train station is also just a few minutes’ walk from the developmen­t.

The first homes are expected to be available in spring 2025, and Cala expects to attract “significan­t” interest amid ongoing demand for new homes across the city. Moray Stewart, land director at Cala Homes (West), said the firm is“extremely excited” about The foundry, adding: “The acquisitio­n of the site is an important milestone, and working with our project partners, we will now get underway with preparator­y works immediatel­y.

"The investment made by Cala to develop The Foundry underlines our commitment to enhancing urban communitie­s, creating better housing opportunit­ies for a wide demographi­c of people, as well as facilitati­ng new jobs that will importantl­y help to grow the local economy.”

Separately, house builder miller Homes recently announced that was bringing 81 new homes to West Dunbartons­hire after securing a prominent 13-acre plot. it will be the house builder’ s fourth scheme in west dunbartons­hire over the last few years, joining braid fields, miller bank, and Garshake Gardens.
