Cala unveils £61m Glasgow homes plan
Glasgow suburb Cathcart is set for more than 250 “muchneeded” new homes after housebuilding giant Cala completed its purchase of land from a flow control technology firm as part of a £61 million investment to create a new housing development.
Cala Management is now officially the owner of the vacant, brownfield site spanning nearly six acres from Celeros Flow Technology, and will now progress the delivery of the foundry, billed as a sustainable development featuring 254 homes, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, and bespoke two and three-bedroom penthouses.
It comes after Celeros FT chose Cala Homes( West) as its residential partner in 2022 to develop surplus land, and planning permission was granted by Glasgow City Council in March 2024.
C alas aidan independent economic impact assessment highlighted that the construction phase of the new asset will direct jobs and support a further 123 indirect roles.
The development once completed is expected to generate £5.7m of new capital spend from local residents, and see Glasgow City Council receive £380,000 in additional council tax revenue, while Cala will support a range of organisations and groups, including delivering its Land to Life educational workshop to primary school pupils, and celebrating local businesses through its Showhome of Support initiative.
In terms of eco credentials, homes are set to be powered by ground source heat pumps, while there will be passive electric vehicle charging and the site will have landscaped communal areas, with integrated cycle and walkways from the development to the wider local area that includes artisan shops, cafes, and restaurants, as well as Linn Park and Queen’s Park. Cathcart train station is also just a few minutes’ walk from the development.
The first homes are expected to be available in spring 2025, and Cala expects to attract “significant” interest amid ongoing demand for new homes across the city. Moray Stewart, land director at Cala Homes (West), said the firm is“extremely excited” about The foundry, adding: “The acquisition of the site is an important milestone, and working with our project partners, we will now get underway with preparatory works immediately.
"The investment made by Cala to develop The Foundry underlines our commitment to enhancing urban communities, creating better housing opportunities for a wide demographic of people, as well as facilitating new jobs that will importantly help to grow the local economy.”
