Rare Hamilton trip worthwhile for dual champion jockey Buick as he rides to an impressive treble

- Gordon Brown

William Buick was in sparkling form with a near 18/1 treble supplied by Aragon Castle, Jordan Electrics and Lady bouquet at hamilton park yesterday.

The opening-leg Aragon Castle, trained by Andrew Balding, stormed to an allthe-way success in the feature £30,000 Aspire Cleaning Company Almada Mile Handicap.

“He got into a nice rhythm and gradually picked up and was well on top at the line,” Buick said. “I don’t know whether they will step him up in trip but he has probably got a bit of progression in him.”

The dual champion jockey, making his first trip to Hamilton since 2022, then struck on Jordan Electrics, a spare ride in the Aspire Hamilton-park Handicap, due to Paul Mulrennan being stuck in traffic due to an accident on the A66.

He added: “Obviously he is Paul’s ride but he is pretty quick. He won as he liked and has beaten a competitive field. He’s the type of horse that Jim Goldie does very well with.”

Meanwhile, Shine On Brendan bids to land the Visit racingtv.com Handicap for

the second year running at Musselburgh Racecourse this afternoon.

Sent off the 3/1 favourite, Jim Goldie’s charge got up in the closing stages to score by half a length 12 months ago.

“Hopefully he’ll nearly win it again!” the Renfrewshire handler said yesterday. “He’s

been running well and getting closer so this might be his big chance.”

Goldie is also represented by Penelope’s Sister in the Racecourse Live Streams On Racingtv Extra Handicap over 1m 4f.

Bred by Ayr racecourse jointowner William Johnstone, she was the outsider of a six-runner affair when springing a 33/1 upset at Hamilton Park last Thursday night under a super-confident spin by Amie Waugh.

Crystal Guard is a likely contender to challenge Penelope’s Sister. A narrow winner at Ayr at the beginning of last month, he narrowly failed to make it a double off 1lb higher when beaten half a length in third just over two weeks later.

The handicapper has left him unchanged on a mark of 47 which does not look beyond him.

Lanarkshire-born Paula Muir is enjoying a decent spell and she partners Going Underground for veteran trainer Will Storey in the Join Racing TV Handicap.

“He gave me a great ride when winning at Ayr last time and, although he’s gone up a few pounds for that, he’ll hopefully go well again,” Muir said. “It was his first win on turf so it should have done his confidence the world of good.”

At Thirsk, Savvy Warrior can build on a recent success as he tackles the first division of the Weatherbys epassport Handicap, while The Reverend is interesting on his return to action in the British EBF Novice Stakes.
