2024 Nuart festival now ready to launch across Granite City

-

Nuart Aberdeen will bring a splash of colour to the city centre as the popular festival returns tomorrow.

A total of 11 renowned street artists have transformed spaces across the city, including at Aberdeen Health Village and Union Point.

Event founder and curator, Martyn Reed, is delighted Nuart is now part of the calendar.

“I think maybe because it’s not part of the Central Belt, it shows that Aberdonians can produce and host world-class events, and though a few of us do fly in, it’s very much a local affair produced by an oddball group with roots firmly in the city,” he said.

The event, staged by Aberdeen Inspired, includes local talent KMG, returning artist Hera of Herakut, Addam Yekutieli aka Know Hope, Bahia Shehab, Case Maclaim and CBloxx.

They will be joined by Mahn Kloix, Millo, Molly Hankinson, Niels Shoe Meulman and Wasted Rita.

Aberdeen Inspired CEO Adrian Watson promises art fans a world-class treat.

“The Financial Times has just named Nuart Aberdeen as one of its ‘six street-art destinations to see now’ alongside the likes of Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, and San Francisco,” he said.

“To have something of that calibre, with that recognition, happening right here in Aberdeen this week is something everyone in the city should be proud of – and come along and enjoy.”

A series of events and attractions are also scheduled to occur over the weekend, like helping create the world’s largest chalk mural at Marischal College Quad; Inspired Nights on Shiprow; a Banksy documentary; and a street art conference drawing experts and academics from around the world.

The event, held in partnership with and funded by Aberdeen City Council, will also host walking tours on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 4pm from Aberdeen Maritime Museum.

Julie Wood, the council’s chief officer for city development and regeneration, said: “We hope as many as people as possible go along to enjoy one of the best street festivals on offer.”
