From Milton Road to the Oval in five years for Josh

-

In just five years Josh Hull went from a debut for Oundle Town CC in the Northants Premier Division to an England Test cap.

Hull’s first Oundle appearance came at the age of 15 and the left-arm opening bowler was signed on by first-class county Leicestershire as soon as he left Stamford School.

A modest red ball record in his formative years didn’t stop England picking Hull for his debut in the third and final Test of a series against Sri Lanka at the Oval. He was presented with his first cap by England’s legendary allrounder Andrew Flintoff.

And the 6ft 7in seamer did okay taking 3-53 in the first innings before a 0-38 spell in the second innings as England suffered a shock eightwicket defeat.

Hull is also in the England squad taking on Australia in three T20s and five one-day internationals this month, the first of which was on Wednesday.

Occasional Peterborough Town fast bowler Alex Green, a current Stamford School student and Leicestershire Academy player, has been picked for England for a Youth (U19) one-day international tri-series against Scotland and Ireland later this month.

LINCS PREMIER

Spalding Town face an anxious last day as they try and preserve their Lincs Premier Division status.

Spalding need to beat their already relegated neighbours Long Sutton at home (11.30am) and hope one of Grimsby or Nettleham lose their final fixtures. Grimsby are at home to second-placed Lindum and Nettleham visit fourth-placed Woodhall Spa.

Sutton already did Spalding one favour by beating Nettleham by four wickets in a low scoring game at Paradise Lane last weekend.

Paul Edgeller, Josh Baker and Davico Kruger all took three wickets as Nettleham were shot out for 91.

Spalding also lost, by 21 runs at Lindum, but picked up enough bonus points in a high-scoring clash to keep their survival hopes alive. Joe Manton’s 77 pushed Spalding up to 253 all out.

Spalding were also indebted to Bourne who pipped Grimsby by 10 runs. Star man for Bourne was wicket-keeper Carl Wilson who top scored with 56 not out in his side’s 158 and then dispensed with his gloves to take two wickets.
