Posh had been torn apart by their new signing
A pre-season friendly at the club's training ground convinced Posh boss Darren Ferguson to try and sign forward Bradley Ihionvien from Colchester United.
”Bradley came on as a substitute and he tore us apart for 15 minutes,” Ferguson said. “We’d had an eye on him anyway, but that performance really made our minds up.
"Bradley hasn’t played many games, but Colchester do very well with their young players as we know because we signed a couple in the past.
"Bradley has pace, he is strong and he is left-footed, which is slightly different to the other strikers we have. He has a lot of development in him and I am excited to get the chance to work with him."
The feeling is mutual with the 20 year-old keen to join the ranks of young strikers who have flourished under his new gaffer. Not that he expected the move to happen on deadline day as he was on his way with Colchester to Accrington Stanley for a League Two game when the transfer was set in motion.
"It was a whirlwind,” Ihionvien said. “I expected to be involved at Accrington, but on the coach I found out I was going to be a Posh player which was obviously great news. Once I knew they wanted me I was keen to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible.
"I’ve had calls from a lot of people telling me what a great move it should be to a club and manager who have a great record in developing strikers.”
Ihionvien has started just seven Football League games. He has scored five goals in all competitions. He has signed a three-year contract after moving for an undisclosed fee.
