Women left it late to protect a perfect playing record

-

Posh Women’s perfect start to the season continued thanks to a fantastic late fightback in a National Midlands Division One game at Barnsley.

The hosts led from the third minute to the 80th minute in a Midlands Division One fixture at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, but Posh then equalised through in-form Katie Middleton before substitute Frankie Pim struck the winner in the first minute of added time.

It means Posh have won all three National League fixtures so far this season while accumulating a positive goal difference of +12 and sit second behind free-scoring leaders Loughborough Lightning.

It took a while for Posh to recover after conceding that early goal, but manager Jake Poole’s decision to empty his substitutes’ bench paid dividends.

All five possible swaps were made before Middleton headed home a fine Evie Driscoll-King cross for the leveller and it was substitute Pim who was on hand to tap home the added-time winner after a Middleton shot had been parried into her path.

Posh are next in National League action at home to Boldmere St Michaels at Bourne Town FC on Sunday (2pm).

LEAGUE ONE

Three League One games will be played on Saturday even though it’s an international weekend.

Charlton Athletic had enough call-ups to have called off their fixture against Rotherham United at the Valley, but manager Nathan Jones wanted the game to go ahead.

Charlton would go top if they win and Wrexham fail to beat Shrewsbury at home, but Rotherham won for the first time last weekend, 2-1 at home to Huddersfield Town.

Posh hero Jonson ClarkeHarris scored his first goal of his second spell as a Rotherham player from the penalty spot in that game.

Barnsley v Bristol Rovers at Oakwell is the other game taking place.
