Hunts’ hopes were dashed

-

Hunts’ hopes of winning the Middleton Cup, the Bowls England County Championship, were dashed at the semi-final stage for the second year running.

They were beaten 130-89 by Wiltshire, who went on to defeat Northumberland in the final, writes Melvyn

Beck.

That event brought the curtain down on the Championships at Leamington, with Hunts having returned with one national title, courtesy of the Morton brothers, Ean and Tristan, from Parkway in the pairs.

Brampton were beaten in the semi-finals of the Top Club event by Gerrards Cross (Bucks), who had beaten them in the final of the Club Two Fours the previous week.

Brampton youngster Jorja Jackson reached the semi-finals of the two-bowl singles, where she lost to the eventual winner from Somerset, Laura Holden.

Joe Randall and Michelle Coleman (Brampton) reached the quarter-finals in the mixed pairs, as did the Brampton rink of Rob Hall, Eric Baker, Simon Leader and Glyn Milbourne in the senior fours.

Parkway's Toby Furzeland lost in the round of the last 16 in the two-bowl singles, while the junior pair of Chloe Brett and Rebecca Moorbey and the Ramsey rink of Gill

Willis, Jill Francis, Tracy Cole and Alison Yeoman in the senior fours both collected one win apiece.
