Posh blow a great chance to go second

- By Alan Swann alan.swann@nationalworld.com @PTAlanSwann

Posh suffered a disaster in Devon as their promotion hopes took another knock.

Posh would have gone second with a win and they had the chances and to achieve that in comfort, but a penalty from Harrison Burrows was all they had to show despite creating many chances.

Even when winger Michael Olakigbe was dismissed after collecting two tame cautions in the 56th minute Posh looked the likelier to score.

Instead they conceded two goals from set-pieces in the final 15 minutes to make it one point from three games.

Joel Randall saw an early ‘goal’ controversially wiped out for offside, but just past the half hour Posh were awarded a penalty for a foul on Ephron Mason-Clark, just their second of the season

Posh enjoyed a remarkable escape just before the break when Josh Knight’s backpass was intercepted by Jack Aitchison. Bilokapic made a great save.

Posh had two chances to extend their lead in the opening 10 minutes of the secondhalf but Olakigbe and Jones were thwarted by Sinisalo.

Olakigbes’s dismissal soon after was followed by Jones curling wide of an empty net from a tough angle.

Exeter sub Dion Rankine unleashed a cracker for 25 yards which hit the post before Reece Cole curled a free

kick home off a post and then a cross from the same player was sliced into his own goal by Katongo.

Posh should have equalised on 86 minutes when Ajiboye’s deep cross reached an unmarked Kyprianou, but he made poor contact.
