STACKS OF TASTE AT NEW BBQ OUTLET
KOREAN favourite Soju & Gogi will be bringing a new twist to the idea of a BBQ at the coast this weekend with the opening of a new outlet at Sunderland’s Stack Seaburn.
The Koerean barbecue chain, which opened a restaurant in Dean Street in Newcastle in 2019, has already expanded with an ‘express’ unit in the city’s Grainger Market and is set to be among the street food traders in the upcoming St James’ Stack.
And now it has Sunderland in its sights with its new venture at the coast and will be introducing Stack Seaburn visitors to the likes of corn dogs, wraps and traditional Korean fried chicken, which comes with a pick of eight sauces.
Soju & Gogi founder and owner Yoco Cao said that grilling and communal eating perfectly encapsulates the essence of Korean dining.
“The vibrant, social atmosphere of Stack aligns perfectly with our vision of bringing people together through food,” she said.
Soju & Gogi – whose names refer to drink and food, with ‘soju’ being an alcoholic Korean tipple and ‘goji’ meaning barbecue – also has a sister restaurant called Insa Korean BBQ in Jesmond’s Osborne Road.
At the Seaburn site, where another recent addition was Davey’s Mexicano earlier this summer, Soju & Gogi will be taking over the unit next to the Captain Morgan bar on Stack’s upper plaza.
Gemma Dishman, Stack’s project development director, welcomes the new addition, saying: “We’re proud to offer an eclectic mix of food traders and we’re excited to add Soju & Goji to this line-up.”
She said that besides classic corn dogs and new fried chicken options, there will be special dishes exclusive to Stack, adding: “Their dynamic, unique flavours will be a first for many in the Seaburn and surrounding area.”
