BOOK A REST

PAUL PHILBIN ENJOYS A WELLNESS RETREAT IN THE ROMANIAN CAPITAL, BUCHAREST

-

THE clue is really in the city’s name – this is a place for rest and relaxation.

Situated just north of Bucharest, Therme is a health and leisure complex which offers the full wellness package at really affordable prices – challenging the concept of this kind of activity not being available to everyone.

Mental and physical fitness is important and Therme gives the opportunity for all people to reap the benefits of excellent facilities.

Even though I was aware of Therme before my trip, it exceeded my expectations in every way. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or excitement, the complex caters to everyone with its pricing, wide range of activities, and calming atmosphere.

For those looking to relax, you can enjoy one of the many saunas and steam rooms, while for the adrenaline junkie, there is an indoor Galaxy area that was clearly very popular, but due to a back injury I had to skip that.

And if you have children they will have an amazing time racing down the slides.

Whatever option you choose, you will leave knowing you’ve had an incredible time.

For me, it was all about recovery as I suffer from mild psoriasis and injured my lower back the week before my trip. To help with my psoriasis, I made the most of the numerous mineral pools, knowing that the salts and minerals would benefit my skin. Within hours I saw a dramatic improvement from a recent flare-up.

My personal highlight was the countless saunas under one roof – all with different temperatures and themes. There was even a Hollywood-themed sauna that was set up like a cinema so you could watch a short film while you relax.

As a regular sauna user, I choose the Bavarian – the hottest at Therme – reaching a whopping 90°C. As my visit was during the annual Saunafest, I was treated to a unique 12-minute performance of The Greatest Showman performed by an expert master of Aufguss (a multi-sensory ritual that took place inside the sauna).

The combination of an enchanting show and the soothing heat made for a memorable experience that set Therme apart from any previous sauna experience.

I made one mistake during my trip and that was not booking a massage. By the time I attempted to book in nothing was available, so make sure it is one of the first things you do if you want one.

Food options at Therme Bucharest are plentiful, with great choices available throughout the day. Whether you’re in the mood for a light, healthy snack or a more indulgent meal, you won’t be disappointed.

Ending the day with a beer in the outdoor heated pool under the clear sky was the perfect way to wrap up my trip.

The combination of the warm water, cool evening breeze, and the picturesque surroundings made for a moment I won’t forget any time soon.

I am now super excited for 2025 when Therme is scheduled to open its doors in Manchester.

In fact, I am already counting down the days to be able to drive 30 minutes from my home in Liverpool for affordable wellness.

And before then I will definitely book a rest in Bucharest.
