FOUR OF THE BEST
Live UEFA Euro 2024
STV, 6.45pm
England face Slovenia in their final Group C match, as Gareth Southgate’s men will be aiming to make it out of the group stages for the fourth consecutive European Championships. The line–up for the last–16 is starting to take shape now but the route towards the final is a long one. England’s dream is to go one better than their previous Euros and win their first major tournament since the 1966 World Cup, but they will need to keep their heads first. These two sides have met six times previously, with England winning five and drawing one. Slovenia, meanwhile, have yet to progress past the group stages since they separated from Yugoslavia in 1991. Mark Pougatch presents, with commentary by Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon.
Bake Off: The Professionals
Channel 4, 8pm
It may not have the broad appeal of the amateur version but at least this pro–pastry chef contest consistently teaches us new words. This week’s first challenge is to create 24 perfectly filled maritozzi – a sort of fresh– cream brioche bun from Rome – alongside 18 flaky, buttery croissants. Then in the showpiece challenge the teams get to let their imaginations run riot as they are tasked with making a choux and nougatine centrepiece with a playtime theme. They may not have time to play around too much, though, as they have 160 choux to fill.
The Great British Sewing
Bee BBC1, 9pm
It’s Children’s Week in the sewing studio and the remaining amateur stitchers have to put their own unique twist on a sequin bomber jacket in the pattern challenge, before fashioning animal–themed fancy dress outfits from beach towels in the transformation. That’s before they bring out some old childhood photos of themselves to use as inspiration in the made–to–measure task, crafting a brand–new outfit to fit one of a group of young models. Esme Young and Patrick Grant will be judging the efforts, while Kiell Smith–bynoe provides the puns.
Super Surgeons: A Chance at Life
Channel 4, 9pm
Former Naval pilot Rich, 53, presents the experts with a uniquely challenging series of problems this week. Rich has a 16cm tumour that extends from his jawline all the way down to his heart, and is wrapped around his carotid. It must be removed but doing so risks damaging the artery. Consultant head and neck surgeon Professor Vin Paler will need a team of vascular and cardiac specialists in order to precisely remove the tumour – however the carotid may still have to be sacrificed.
