Four die in drone and missile attacks

-

Russia: Four people died in Ukrainian drone and missile attacks yesterday, Russian officials said, a day after a bomb attack on Ukraine’s second largest city of Kharkiv killed three people and left dozens in hospital.

Three people, including two children, were killed by falling debris when five Ukrainian missiles were shot down yesterday in Sevastopol, a port city in Russia-annexed Crimea, said Mikhail Razvozhayev, the city’s Moscow-installed governor. A total of 22 people were injured, he added.

One person was killed and three were injured in Russia’s Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, when three Ukrainian drones attacked the city of Grayvoron, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

Russia’s ministry of defence said air defence forces shot down 33 Ukrainian drones over the country’s western Bryansk, Smolensk, Lipetsk and Tula regions.

The attacks came after Russia struck Kharkiv on Saturday afternoon with four aerial bombs, hitting a five-storey residential building and killing three people.

Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said 41 people were still being treated for injuries yesterday.

Ohio: Police in Ohio say 10 people have been injured, including one seriously, in a shooting in Columbus.

The shooting occurred early yesterday in the Short North Arts District, local media said, quoting law enforcement.

The Columbus Police Department said all of the injured are male – eight adults and two youths, who range in age from 16 to 27.

Police were said to be searching for a suspect who was travelling in a four-door white Honda Civic with tinted windows.

Switzerland: Rescuers in Switzerland have found the body of one of three people who went missing after thunderstorms and heavy rain sparked a landslide.

The landslide hit a group of three houses in the municipality of Lostallo, in the Alpine valley of Misox in Graubunden, on Friday.

The two other people remained missing yesterday, but search crews did pull one woman alive from the rubble.

A team of 200 rescuers has been carrying out a search since Saturday, supported by excavators, specially-trained search dogs, drones and army helicopters.

Search operations had to be halted during the night due to heavy rain.

Swiss authorities also said a segment of the Swiss motorway A13, leading towards Italy, had been completely submerged and destroyed by flooding.

Red Sea: An aerial drone likely launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels has damaged a vessel in the Red Sea.

Attacks have seen shipping drastically drop through the route crucial to Asian, Middle East and European markets, in a campaign the Houthis say will continue as long as the Israel-hamas war in the Gaza Strip rages on.

The drone attack happened around dawn yesterday off the coast of the rebel-held port city of Hodeida, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said.

It added that the vessel sustained damage but the mariners on board “were reported safe”.
