A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

David Austin Roses has honoured iconic potter Emma Bridgewater with a rose that’s every bit as beautiful in the garden as it is among specially designed tableware

-

Asymphony of colours ranging from apricot and coral to mauve and lilac defines the character of ‘Emma Bridgewater’™ (Ausb44a16), a new English rose bringing together two favourite household names, David Austin Roses and Emma Bridgewater.

Warmly received at RHS Chelsea this year, ‘Emma Bridgewater’™ has been 12 years in the making. “We have meticulously bred, tested and trialled the ‘Emma Bridgewater’™ variety to ensure it is both beautiful and born to endure,” explains David Austin.

‘Emma Bridgewater’™ is fragrant, with notes of tea and meadow hay in its bouquet. Sun-loving with mediumsized blooms and a broad, upright habit, this rose is ideal for growing in a sunny border, where the blue undertones in the rose’s pink blooms will complement an underplanting of similarly hued plants such as salvias and lavender.

The new rose has a good vase life and makes a wonderful addition to a bedside table as a single stem in vase. It will also bring a homely touch to a kitchen table when arranged in a large, informal bunch.

To bring the ‘Emma Bridgewater’™ rose into the home, the eponymous pottery has released a special-edition hand-painted mug featuring the design, which is available from the David Austin website. You can also buy a David Austin gift box including a voucher for the rose, an Emma Bridgewater milk-bottle vase for displaying a cut stem or two, as well as a matching tea towel.

“The ‘Emma Bridgewater’™ rose is wonderful, not least because it is full of surprises as it displays several distinctly di•erent colours as the buds appear, open and then develop. It has also been rewarding to take this beautiful rose and translate it into pottery,” says Emma Bridgewater.

Use the online voucher code ENGLISHGARDENFD to receive free standard delivery until 31 July 2024.
