Thrillseekers – it’s time to assemble! ON SALE NOW

-

Sunshine News Readers,

This week is very exciting as we launch a line-up of challenges and events for the summer! We’ve been busy working on these for a while and we’re thrilled to finally reveal all. The theme over the next couple of months is adrenaline, facing fears and giving goosebumps – and we have a range of events that will do just that!

There really is something for everyone, whether you choose to do them alone, with friends or family, or with work colleagues for a fun, unique teambuilding activity, allowing organisations to tick off CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) requirements at the same time.

Not only are these challenges exciting and lots of fun, but they are also vital to raise much-needed funds as we approach our summer equipment round. All money raised through these events will have a direct impact on children living with disabilities, additional needs and terminal illness in the North East region.

So, if you’re looking to challenge yourself, push yourself outside your comfort zone or face your fears, our summer line-up is set to provide unique, unforgettable experiences, made so much more worthwhile knowing that you’ve overcome a personal challenge to support babies, children and young people in our community.

The first of the challenges is our Sunshine Zipline, which is returning for a second year! After the success of our 2023 event, we jumped(!) at the chance of teaming up with Jelly Legs again for their highly anticipated zipline over the River Tyne this summer.

We have an hour slot from 11am– noon on Friday, August 16, the first day that the zipline will be on the Quayside! Entry costs £40 (non-refundable) and each zipliner pledges to raise a minimum of £50 each.

Due to the ongoing work on the Tyne Bridge, this year’s zip is a little different; challengers will be lifted 125ft in the air by crane, before zipping 240 metres over the River Tyne and reaching speeds of up to 30mph. Participants still get to take in the views of the Millennium Bridge and vibrant Quayside as they soar across the river, this time landing on Baltic Square in Gateshead.

Weight restrictions do apply, so please visit www.thesunshinefund.org/ zip for more details and to register.

For our next event, we’re teaming up with the trusted professionals from Sky-high Skydiving in Peterlee, Durham,

to put on our very own skydive day!

It will take place on Saturday, September 14 and challengers will jump in tandem from 10,000ft, with a 30-second freefall before taking in the views of Durham as they parachute safely to the ground.

By skydiving with us, you get a discounted rate as entry is £75 (nonrefundable), and we ask skydivers to raise at least £300 each. Weight restrictions apply and all information can be found on our website. To book a space, for more information and to read the terms and conditions, please head to www.thesunshinefund.org/skydive.

We also have a fun event taking place at Newcastle’s Teamsport racetrack on Thursday, September 19. Join us to compete against each other to achieve the fastest time. Tickets cost £35pp and no additional fundraising is required. If you think you can be top of the leaderboard, book now at www.thesunshinefund.org/ekarting.

For those who’d like to support us, at their own pace we have the perfect fundraising project. We are launching The BIG Sunshine Walk – an interactive project where everybody is invited to contribute to a walk covering the distance (1,495 miles!) between our Newcastle office and the Costa Del Sol – ‘the sunshine coast.’

Of course, we’re not actually going to Spain, and we’re not expecting anybody to walk 1,495 miles, but it’s a fun way of encouraging supporters and corporate teams to take on a unique challenge, and to bring people together to reach the end goal of £5,000.

So, how does it work? For example, if a team of 10 walked 10 miles in total, it would knock 100 miles off the overall destination, and however much they raised would contribute to the total target of £5,000. You can walk wherever you like, at whatever pace you like, whenever you like. Find out more about how to get involved at www. thesunshinefund.org/costadelsol.

We are also running a digital ‘Summer of Thrills’ raffle, and the theme is adventure! We have a selection of action-packed prizes up for grabs. To enter, simply text THRILL to 70215 and follow the instructions. Entries close at 11.59pm on August 8 and entrants must be aged 16 or over.

And it doesn’t stop there… we still have a couple of events to announce!

Thanks for reading!
