Bruno told to stay put at Magpies

-

NEWCASTLE United star Bruno Guimaraes has been told to forget a big-money move to Manchester City - because he can achieve all his footballing ambitions with the Magpies.

The Brazilian was again a key man for Eddie Howe last season, with a series of top-class performances as injury-hit United finished seventh in the Premier League table. However, financial fair play restrictions means the possibility of Newcastle having to sell one of their top players in order to invest this summer continues to hang over the club.

Guimaraes is said to be happy on Tyneside and already looking forward to the challenge of next season, but Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris Saintgermain are said to be weighing up a move for the midfielder, who has a £100m release clause in his current deal. That expires on

June 30, but former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna says he should remain at St James’ Park.

The full-back played under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium and feels they don’t need to splash the cash on the Brazilian and that he can be a big part in helping guide Newcastle to success.

“I don’t think that Manchester City need a player like Bruno; I think City are covered in the middle,” he told Coinpoker. “I think he has wonderful ability. He is such an important player for Newcastle, I can’t see how they could justify selling him, especially to another team in the Premier League.

“It’s really important that Newcastle United hold on to their best players if they want to challenge the best team in the Premier League. I think he’s going to be a big part of Newcastle’s project for the next few years and is a player that they should be looking to build around, not sell. He can fulfil his ambitions with Newcastle if they continue to strengthen the squad.”
