Afloat or Ashore

Details: Afloat or Ashore is a brand new art competitio­n organised by The Royal Society of Marine Artists in conjunctio­n with National Historic Ships UK and the Wapping Group of Artists. Artists are invited to depict any of the 2,000 vessels listed on the National Historic Ships Register. A first prize of £1,000 is offered and there is also a special junior category for artists aged between 11 and 16. When: Closes for entries on September 20.

A Letter in Mind

Details: Artists are invited to take part in the annual

National Brain Appeal’s art fundraiser A Letter in Mind by creating a piece of artwork on a plain, white envelope on the theme of ‘The Wonder of Colour’. All the entries are identicall­y priced at £85 and sold anonymousl­y via an online gallery, with proceeds going towards helping people affected by neurologic­al and neuromuscu­lar conditions in the UK. Exhibition: An exhibition will be available to see online, from October 29 to November 2. Online sales open at 11am on October 31.

RSMA

Details: The Royal Society of Marine Artists seeks submission­s of art inspired by the marine environmen­t, and tidal water.

Exhibition: An exhibition will be held at the Mall Galleries in London, from September 19 to 28.

Sketch for Survival

Details: Sketch for Survival is a charitable initiative organised by the charity Explorers Against Extinction to help raise awareness about species’ extinction and habitat loss while also raising vital funds for nominated frontline conservati­on projects through the sale of artworks. The exhibition is free to enter. One hundred artworks will be selected in the wildlife and wild space category for a touring exhibition and auction.

Exhibition: Venues include The Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh and three weeks at gallery@oxo on the South Bank in London. The auction concludes on Sunday November 17.

Society of Wildlife Artists

Details: Entries are invited depicting wildlife subjects that evoke the spirit of the natural world for the 61st annual Society of Wildlife Artists’ exhibition – The Natural Eye. Women in Art Prize

Details: Formerly the Hollybush Painting Prize, the Women in Art Prize celebrates women painters, photograph­ers, illustrato­rs and printmaker­s. Any female artist age 18 and over living and working in the UK may enter.

Exhibition: A London exhibition for 22 finalists will take place later in the year; location and dates to be advised.
