Alrewas defeated by champions

-

The century was reached in the 33rd over, and 50 partnership in 85 balls, before Daly was bowled by Hussain for 43 with the score on 143 with 13 overs remaining.

The returning Wigley had Ed Smith caught behind for a duck in the next over, and Chauhan was caught at long on by Tom Randle for 47, giving Hussain his third wicket. Nine balls later, Joe Seager was caught by Sargeant at first slip off Hussain for 3, and suddenly the Tigers were 151-8 with 59 balls remaining, having lost four wickets for eight runs. Joe Mcnulty then joined Maddox as they battled to save the game.

The experienced pair batted sensibly, with the only scare being an lbw shout with three balls to go, seeing the Tigers to an eventual total of 175-8 off 55 overs.

The Tigers claimed five points from the game, whilst the visitors took away 16 points to ease their relegation fears.

The Tigers fall to eighth in the table but must console themselves that at the same stage last season, they were bottom with no wins. They will hope to start their climb up the table next Saturday when they visit Dorridge, scene of a thrilling one wicket victory last season.

SWARKESTONE bounced back from defeat to Sandiacre to record a 32-run win over Alrewas in a high-scoring Premier Division encounter at Walkfield.

Craig Swinfield (2-66) and Matt Frend (2-36) reduced Swarkestone to 39-4, but the reigning champions roared back with Harvey Hosein (90) and Ben Hutchinson (114) adding a scintillating 189 for the fifth wicket.

Late wickets did little to halt the flow and Swarkestone closed on 282-9. After the break, James Burton (49), Jahural Islam (93) and Alex Scully (37) all had a go, but ultimately Alrewas fell short on 250-8.
