Youngster making his mark in karting world

-

A KINGSBURY youngster is making his mark in the karting world with success in the GX-UK race series’ inaugural Macey Cup.

Kye Turner (10) started karting at Daytona Tamworth in 2022 finishing third in a cadet championship before finishing first in the Daytona Inkart Championship series in 2023.

Kye is ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and races as an ambassador for AIM (Autism in Motorsport) a charity which aims to evolve ASD kids in Motorsport.

His dad Rob Turner said that Kye’s involvement in karting has been really positive.

“Kye once again demonstrates how his ASD traits contribute positively to his achievements in motorsport.

“His unique perspective and focus have played a key role in his success, proving that diversity in the racing world brings invaluable strengths to the track.”

This season Kye is racing in the national GX-UK race series (cadet age group 8-11) which comprises eight meetings across the country including the Macey Cup where he clinched first place beating Lucas Dear by a a hair’s breadth of 0.003 seconds!

The season’s next race will take place at Fulbeck in April and Rob said he hopes his son will continue to flourish within the sport.

“It has given Kye much more than the gratification of winning. His main ASD issues are with social interaction and knowing how and when to be appropriate. It has helped with dealing with disappointment, meeting other ASD kids and making friends.

“Maybe this might inspire another ASD kid to find a sport they love and have the possibility of being successful.”
