Special concert to unveil last song featuring vocals of Corrie

- By DAN NEWBOULD News Reporter Charlie Bradford

FRIENDS who made a poignant song featuring the last recorded vocals of a late pal who died of cancer will unveil it at a special sold out concert in his name this weekend.

Corrie Walker, from Tamworth, sadly passed away last year and is missed by many. Concert for Corrie will take place at the Progressive Club in Tamworth on Saturday, March 2 and will feature One More Song by Small Town Shanties, a musical project created and led by friends and songwriting collaborators Jack Chetwynd and Charlie Bradford.

Jack, from Polesworth, explained to the Herald: “During the Covid lockdown Charlie and I started writing and recording together as we were unable to perform live.

“We found that we worked well together and feel that our differing tastes in music give our writing a good balance.

“Our only agenda is to enjoy the process of writing, recording, meeting and collaborating with different musicians and friends with the aim of creating and producing honest music that has the ability to strike a chord with the listener.

“Our debut single ‘One More Song’ is due to be released on March 2. The vocal to the track is sang by our late friend and my former Mojostripe bandmate Corrie Walker. This was the last song Corrie recorded just a few months before his passing.

“Corrie was a popular figure in the Tamworth music scene and fronted various bands that performed regularly in and around the town.

“He also organised and performed at several charity gigs over the years, raising lots of money for Leukaemia and cancer charities.

“Although the song wasn’t purposefully written for Corrie, it now feels like only Corrie could’ve sang it. I think it was subconsciously made for him. When I first wrote the song, I liked it but Corrie’s performance makes it really special to me.”

The song was recorded in their rehearsal room in Atherstone and Sinewave Studios in Tamworth.

Following mixing at Sinewave, it was mastered at the famous Abbey

Road Studios in London. The help of friends Alan, Richard and Jon Caves (drums) has been crucial in the production.

“We will be unveiling the song alongside performances from Mojostripe, Legends of Indie and Tom Mcgloughlin at the sold out ‘Concert for Corrie’ at the Progressive Club in Tamworth on March 2,” explained Jack.

“The song will be available on Apple Music, Spotify and all major music platforms from the evening of March 2.

“We really hope it strikes a chord with people and serves as a fitting tribute to Corrie.

“We would also like to make a plea to anyone who hears and likes the song and/or knew Corrie to make a donation to St Giles Hospice in Corrie’s memory. Please take a listen, remember Corrie and spread the word of the ‘Small Town Shanties.’”

One More Song’ is set for release on March 2 and will be available on Spotify, Apple Music and all other major music platforms.
