Team performance makes it a good day at the office

- SPORTS REPORTER

Crieff Bowling Club is hosting a Valentine’s Bingo Tea next week at the Coldwell’s Road clubhouse from 6.30pm on Friday, February 9.

Anyone wishing to donate to the tea can call Roy on 07460 930 845 or Mary on 07454 011 228.

Meanwhile, the club’s weekly lottery draw for Friday last week was 2, 4, 10 and 17.

There was no winner and the jackpot for the draw on Friday this week is £1940.

Crieff and Strathearn RFC racked up a century of points away to Bo’ness on Saturday during a 109-0 victory.

Crucially, the emphatic win brought with it the 10 points available by virtue of the fixture being classed as a double-header.

The rugby weather gods were favourable – with conditions on the day mild, sunny and even dry – although there was a stiff wind blowing up the pitch.

Crieff made good use of the wind in the first half, with captain George Davis insisting his team get off to a good start as he knew the elements would be against them in the second period.

His charges duly delivered and, after only a couple of minutes, a wellworked team try was finished in the corner by Du Pon.

The strong running and fitterlooking Crieff team racked up the bonus point after only 20 minutes following some good off- loading and interplay between the forwards and backs.

Both Du Pon, who ran sumptuous lines, and the terrier Drummond scored hat-tricks in the first half and the score was 45-0 at the break.

Home side Bo’ness put in some good tackles and controlled possession for periods, more than the scoreline would suggest.

In fact, they should have opened the scoring in the second when their number 10 and captain failed to take advantage of a situation which saw them both up against Crieff’s Leon Rennick.

Rennick kept his wits about him and prevented the off-load by successfully reading a dummy as the Bo’ness pair attempted to get their side on the scoresheet.

The second half saw a Tom Di Virgilio brace of tries for Crieff as the scoring for the Blue and Golds continued. There was a welcome return off the bench for the strongtackling Fraser Coldwell, who helped himself to a hat-trick of his own after coming on as a substitute.

Coach Elgar was pleased with a good day at the office and a win which he described as a team performance.

There are now only two league games of the season remaining and the Crieff side’s destiny is in their own hands in terms of the title.

The Blue and Golds’ next fixture is at home against Grangemouth Stags on Saturday, February 17.
