Alva Glen safety warning

- CHRIS MARZELLA

A fresh warning has been issued to walkers flouting safety regulations implemented at an area of Alva Glen that has been closed to the public.

Clackmannanshire Council this week said it has received reports that people have been climbing over safety barriers and entering the closed area of the glen.

The popular upper path at Alva Glen remains closed due to safety concerns. Currently there is no way to check behind the water pipe running under the path so the stability of path and its safety cannot be guaranteed.

It’s understood that the path has eroded to the point that in now contains large voids, big enough for an animal or child to fit through, that opens up in to a 30-foot high drop-off.

The council said that due to the nature of the problem and its location finding a solution is proving to be very complex and challenging.

The council has been in contact with specialist engineers and is attempting to obtain quotes for this work whilst the route remains out of bounds.

Sections of the path through the Glen are uneven, slippery, and unfenced with some steep drops.

In a statement this week, the council said: “in the meantime however, we have been warned by bridge engineers that the erosion could stretch much further than what is initially visible and that patching the area may only lead to further deterioration.”

They reiterated the warning over the dangerous stretch, urging walkers to abide by the safety signage and barriers.

“Please do not go into the closed part of the glen for any reason”, they said.

“Please use alternative paths to reach the hills.

“Please do not promote this path on social media as you are not only endangering your own lives but that of others too.”
