Swans linked with move for Scottish star Johnston

SWANSEA City are reportedly one of three clubs chasing Sturm Graz rightback Max Johnston.

According to Football Insider, the Swans are battling with Oxford United and Stoke City in a bid to seal a loan move this summer, while there is also believed to be interest from Europe in the 20-year-old.

Johnston joined Austrian champions Graz last summer after signing from Motherwell in a compensation deal worth around £400,000, having turned down the chance to stay in Scotland and sign an extension.

The full-back made 29 appearances to help his side to win the league and cup double last season, and also earned his first senior Scotland callup.

Swansea are now among those hoping to bring him to the English second tier this season.

Meanwhile, Ronald is hopeful his starring role in the Carabao Cup win over Gillingham is just the start of a successful season in a Swansea City shirt.

The Brazilian winger was right at the heart of what was ultimately a relatively comfortable win on Tuesday night, in what was his first start of the season.

Having seen his pre-season disrupted by a hamstring injury, he managed to cap off a superb showing with his first goal at the Swansea.com Stadium - and he hopes there’s more to come.

“This win gives us a lot of confidence and we will now go into this weekend’s game against Preston with confidence,” he said.

“We want to show the fans that we can go for another win on Saturday and I’m really happy to be scoring my first goal.

“Unfortunately I got injured in preseason and I was very disappointed with that.

“I had been feeling very confident and I was training well.

“Now I have recovered and I’m back on the field.

“I’m happy and I’m very hungry for more and more.

“I’m feeling very confident on the field and I just have to thank them for backing us and helping the team.”

Swansea’s reward for their Carabao Cup success against the Gills is a second round home tie against League One Wycombe Wanderers.
